In this study, characteristics of BTEX pollution in air at some intersections in Hanoi city were evaluated, including intersections Dai La – Minh Khai, Tran Khat Chan – Lo Duc – Kim Nguu and Dai Co Viet – Tran Khat Chan. Activated charcoal tubes and Gas chromatography coupled with flame ionization detector were used for sampling and analyze BTEX in the air samples. The air samples were collected at different times of day. The BTEX concentrations in atmosphere at the aforementioned intersections were highest in the morning from 7 to 11 am, the lower from 11 am to 3 pm, and were increased again from 3 pm to 7 pm at afternoon. The concentrations of BTEX pollutions were decreased markedly on weekends. At the intersection of Dai La - Minh Khai, the concentrations of Benzene pollutions in atmosphere was 4.7 times higher than the permitted value under the regulation of QCVN 06: 2009 / BTNMT. At the intersection of Dai La - Minh Khai, the highest concentration of toluene was 570.12 μg/m 3 . According to the distance and downwind from intersections to in residential areas from 3 to 60 m, the concentrations of BTEX in the atmosphere showed tend to decrease.
