Those landscapes form a big picture of an autumn afternoon filled with sadness and homesickness of those who live far away from home, which makes the reader heart-broken. The Chinese sanqu poetry is regarded as a definition that fully carries the meanings of “broken heart”. The article primarily uses analytical methods with comparison and contrast to emphasize the uniqueness of the work as well as the artistic creativity of Ma Zhi Yuan, asserting that Sunny Sand – Autumn Thoughts is a poetic definition of “broken heart”.
