Microscopic Characteristics and Essential Oil Composition of Platostoma cochinchinense (Lour.) A.J.Paton (Lamiaceae)

Abstract
Platostoma cochinchinense (Lour.) A.J.Paton, belonging to the Mint family (Lamiaceae), is a herbaceous species naturally distributed in Central Vietnam. To date, studies on the chemical constituents and biological activities of this species remain very limited, with only one previous report focusing on the leaf essential oil. Therefore, this study was conducted to provide detailed data on the microscopic characteristics and powder characteristics, as well as to compare the chemical composition of essential oils among different plant parts (leaves, stems, and flowers) of P. cochinchinense. The qualitative and quantitative analyses of the essential oils revealed significant variations among the leaves, stems and branches, and flowers. According to the PCA results, the compounds contributing most to the discrimination among the different plant parts were δ-guaijene in the stems and branches, α-barbatene and γ-muurolene in the flowers, and linalool, 1-octen-3-ol, α-bergamotene, and δ-cadinol in the leaves.
