Abstract

Hyperuricemia has emerged as a growing public health concern, particularly as current pharmacotherapies are frequently associated with adverse effects. This study investigated the antihyperuricemic activity of Cleistocalyx operculatus bud extract in a mouse model of hyperuricemia induced by potassium oxonate (500 mg/kg body weight). Mice received oral administration of the extract (100 and 300 mg/kg) or a positive control drug for five consecutive days, after which blood and urine samples were collected for analysis. The results demonstrated that the extract significantly reduced serum uric acid levels in hyperuricemic mice, achieving inhibition rates of 34% at 100 mg/kg and 62% at 300 mg/kg. At the higher dose, the extract also attenuated serum creatinine, blood urea nitrogen (BUN), alanine aminotransferase (ALT), and aspartate aminotransferase (AST) levels. These findings support the potential application of Cleistocalyx operculatus bud extract as an adjunctive therapy in the management of hyperuricemia.
