Forecasting the Formation of Tropical Depression in the Bien Dong Sea Using the WRF-NMM Model

Abstract
Abstract: In this study, we attempted to predict tropical depression in the Bien Dong Sea for three days using the WRF-NMM model with the Betts-Miller-Janjic convection scheme and two nested mesh with resolution15 km and 5 km. The data is obtained from the global CFS model as initial and boundary conditions. The results show that the model can capture the formation of tropical depression in the Bien Dong Sea. The forecasting time is 6 to 12 hours earlier than the actual time. Position of misconfiguration is from 100 to 300 km. The results of this study may help gain more information for forecasting tropical low pressure formation in the South China Sea.
