Abstract

Corruption is a problem that every nation has to face. Therefore, it is mandatory to study the world’s anti-corruption theories, models and approaches for adopting and adapting good international practices to Vietnam’s context. This article reviews some of the world’s influential anti-corruption theories and approaches from three perspectives: law, economics and sociology. The review shows that, though different in scope, extent and analytical perspective, the theories and approaches mainly focus on either (1) the characteristics of corruption or (2) the environment nourishing corruption. Although the insights from the review are useful and highly applicable, they must be adapted to country-specicic context.
