The European Union’s Deforestation-free Supply Chains Regulations: Opportunities and Challenges for Vietnamese Coffee
Main Article Content
Abstract
The European Union (EU) adopted the regulation on deforestation-free supply chains (EUDR) in 2023 to reduce the EU market's impact on deforestation and forest degradation worldwide and protect human rights. This regulation provides for a mandatory due diligence mechanism for the supply chain, anchored on total traceability of the chain, with the purpose of ensuring that the products (cocoa, coffee, beef, timber, palm oil, soybeans) traded or exported to the EU are deforestation-free and produced in accordance with conventions that ensure human rights. EUDR will have a significant impact on Vietnam's strategic commodity exports, particularly rubber, cocoa, and coffee. This research aims to identify and analyze the impact of EUDR towards Vietnam coffee exports. The research techniques employed are the common qualitative techniques, such as descriptive research, observation, document analysis, inferencing, categorization, systematization, and generalization.
