Abstract

This study aimed to assess the efficacy of three–character scripture of massage in treating malnourished children with neurological sequelae. Objective and methods: Controlled clinical trials, comparison before and after treatment: 30 patients were diagnosed with moderate malnutrition belonging to the “Ganqi” of traditional medicine. The patients received health nutrition guidance and a three-character scripture of massage per day, every 30 minutes, for a total of 4 weeks. Results: After 4 weeks of treatment, the symptom score decreased from 20.07 ± 3.50 to 5.50 ± 2.94 and the anorexia value decreased from 17.17 ± 4.87 to 6.67 ± 3.62 (with p<0.05). Mean weight-for-age increased from -2.55 ± 0.26 to -1.81 ± 0.26 (p<0.05). Average weight increased from 11.94 ± 1.74 kg to 13.18 ± 1.76 kg (p<0.05). The rate of children recovering from malnutrition was 80%. Conclusions: Three-character scripture of massage was effective in treating moderate malnutrition in neurologically disabled children and helping children gain weight, reduce anorexia, and improve symptoms of disease.
