Abstract

S53P4 bioactive glass, with angiogenic, osteoinductive, and antibacterial properties, is a suitable bone filler in the treatment of osteomyelitis. Objective: Synthesize and evaluate the quality of clinical effectiveness studies of Bioactive Glass S53P4 in the treatment of osteomyelitis. Methods: Conduct a systematic review of clinical effectiveness studies of Bioactive Glass S53P4 in the treatment of osteomyelitis published until the end of 2023 in the PubMed and Google Scholar databases. Results: All 13 studies included in the systematic review showed positive results when treating osteomyelitis with S53P4 bioactive lenses. The rate of complete healing of patients was over 66.67% and the rate of Recurrence was no more than 14%. No studies have documented complications or side effects related to BAG-S53P4 in any patients after surgery. Conclusion: BAG-S53P4 can be considered a good, effective, and usable material for the treatment of osteomyelitis.
