Abstract
The author’s career as a university teacher began in 1980. Drawing on personal experience he develops here a theory of the Pedagogical Encounter and its place in the modern, globalizing university. Using as analogies the three Asian sacred traditions of Confucianism, Buddhism, and Daoism, the paper develops a description of the role of educational managers and the responsibilities of all the members of the academic community.
