Abstract
Being the eldest son of Professor Dao Duy Anh, the writer wrote about his father’s
biography and career and told some stories about the life of his family.
Professor Dao Duy Anh early took part in the activities of Tan Viet Revolution
Party, an official patriotic political party of the progressive-minded intellectuals from
the Central Provinces in the late 1920s. He had connection with the strong willed
scholars Phan Bo Chau, Huynh Thuc Khang and together with Mr Huynh, he formed
the Tieng Dan papers. He was acquainted with many famous scholars such as
Geographer Nguyen Thieu Lau, Artist Painter Nguyen Do Cung, Literary Reseacher
Dang Thai Mai and others.
He spent most of his life on reseach into lexicography, history, historical geography,
literature, linguistics, etc. His Chinese • Vietnamese, French - Vietnamese dictionaries
and other reseach works about Vietnamese ancient literature and history made
important contributions to the national knowledge and cultural treasure.
Looking back to the research process of Prof. Dao Duy Anh, the author wrote: “In

well as an artist. It is the passion^for researching, the concentration on thinking that
helped him overcome tuberculosis twice in the condition of medicine shortage”.
