Abstract

The article comprises three parts as follows:
1. Analyzing the significance of the Genève Agreement 1954 on Indochina as compared with the Preliminary Agreement on 6,h March 1946: France and the international community recognized Vietnam's independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity; the French troops regrouped south of the 17lh parallel and then completely withdrew from Indochina; the Agreement also served as a legal foundation for the struggle in the next period.

2. Analyzing the international factors affecting the Genève conference and the
perspectives of major powers of the two blocs in the Cold War. The involvement of the major powers influenced the convening and attendance of the conference as well as its process and resolutions.
3. Analyzing the accomplishments as well as the limits of the Genève Conference, and
thereby explaining the influence of major powers in the search for compromises.
The article alvSo points out that the just nature as well as the victory of the resistance
war against the French was them in factors that brought about success to Vietnam
revolution and ushered in a new stage of the cause for national liberation, ndependence
and unification.
